What's the best way to install JRS 5.0.2?

Robert Huet (23113984) | asked Mar 19 '15, 11:00 a.m.
Ben Silverman has a great step-by-step video on YouTube for installing JRS 5.0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uYTDbIrXG4).  Do these steps still apply to JRS 5.0.2?

I tried following the instructions for installing JRS 5.0.2 in the Interactive installation guide for Rational Report Server and got nowhere.  It was instructing me to start up the report server using URL: "https://<report server>:10443/rrdi/setup", but #1, the installed Tomcat Server was set to port 12443, and #2 "rrdi/setup" was not found.  I could have run "jts/setup", but that was not in the instructions.

So having two completely different sets of installation instructions for JRS is really confusing.  I'm tempted to follow Ben's steps in his video, but would like to confirm that this is valid for 5.0.2 before I take this route.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

Hey Robert,
Thanks for the message and apologies for the issues you are experiencing. As Heidi mentioned, you can follow the JRS roadmap she has linked to. This should be viewed as the official, de facto instructions for deployments. The You Tube videos are meant to be references for a general scenario and I cannot recall the specific scenario that was used in the walkthrough.

To answer your question as to the differences between 5.0.1 and 5.0.2, there shouldn't be any.

Finally, you are correct about the confusion around the reporting story for 5.0.2. The good news is that we are planning to greatly simplify this process for version 6.0. The Jazz Reporting Services would be rolled into CLM as the default, out of the box reporting component. This means that you would no longer need to obtain separate drivers to install JRS and/or DCC. Everything would be available in CLM under said plan.

Does the aforementioned plan strike you as appealing? We are seeking feedback on the appeal of such a delivery model.

Therefore, you will obtain CLM and JRS, DCC and additional components will be included and integrated into a single installation and deployment process. This will serve to clarify and simplify things a great deal.

Cheers--

Having JRS rolled into CLM 6.0 will be a big help, John.  Thanks for that insight.

See the JRS install roadmap here:

The Rational Report Server interactive installation guide is only for installing the Rational Report Server component (does not include JRS or DCC).

Thanks!
Heidi
