Upgrade to CLM 5.0.2 & WAS 8.5.5: Which first?

Mike Rago (2578) | asked Dec 08 '14, 1:45 p.m.
We are upgrading our Rational CLM tool suite from version 4.0.1 to 5.0.2.  At the same time, we would like to upgrade WebSphere Application Sever from version 8.0.0.4 to 8.5.5 on our Linux server (Red Hat Linux 6.3 64 bit).

Which upgrade should we perform first?  Should they both be done at the same time?  It is not clear that CLM 4.0.1 is compatible with WAS 8.5.5 (https://jazz.net/library/article/1109 has no mention of 8.5.x) and it appears that CLM 5.0.2 is not compatible with 8.0.0.4 (according to https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Deployment/CLMSystemRequirements50 it looks like 8.0.0.6 and above).

Thanks,
Mike

First you have to make sure that the environment for 5.0.x is present. Maybe you should first upgrading to the highest WAS version supported by CLM 4.0.1

But I doubt that WAS 8.5.5 is not running with CLM 4.0.1.

Everything went fine.

Hope this helps,
Simon

Thanks for the reply Simon.

I spoke with our WAS support team.  Our approach will be to install WAS 8.5.5 into a separate file system (as is done with CLM 5.0.2), configure it to match our current WAS installation, and then deploy the new Rational installation into it.  After all installation steps are complete, we will start the new WAS & Rational tools.
