Creating news feed

Is there a way in Jazz to create a news feed that can be viewed by the news viewlet inthe dashboard?
For example, it would be nice to create a feed from the changes to a workitem or its comment.

Have you tried the event log viewlet? This feeds all the events (you can select what type of element it will display, eg: work items or build).
