When are WI estimates recalculated & when are they not?

Hi,

This is the scenario:

All folks in my team have their work time in their user profile set to 5 hours for a day.
The Work Environment setting in the project configuration is also set to has 5 hours set of a working day.
A team member creates a new task and sets its estimate to 10 h. The actual work item then displays this as 2 days.
When viewed in the Planned Items tab of the iteration plan in the Eclipse UI, the size/estimate/clock column shows 2 days.
When viewed in the Planned Items tab of the iteration plan in the web UI, the size/estimate/clock column shows 1 day 2 hours (ie recalculated using an 8 hour day).
When view in the result set from a work item query, it shows as 1 day 2 hours (I believe this is defect 62104)

Could anyone explain where RTC is meant to recalculate the estimate into actual days it is expected to take (duration), and where it is meant to leave it as an estimate (effort)? Is there any documentation on this?

Thanks,
Kieron
