Hiding work item types

In RTC 4.0.3, when you create a new work item, you can see all the possible work item types in the project area.

Is there a mechanism that allows you to hide work item types from roles - for example, a user may be able to create a story but not a task.

as far as I know, you can only hide categories from different teams.  all workitem types are global per project area.

You can control the creation of work item types using the permissions, but this error comes only when the user tries to save and not before hand.
