working on binary files

We are working on powerpoint, excel, word documents. How can we manage changes? In ClearCase, we would have a single stream UCM project to do this work, however in RTC I am not able to find a method to successful share a workspace with another user. I think I would like to have a workspace that was owned by a group, so each user could co/ci on the same workspace and then the changes could be delivered to the integration stream at a later date.

Hi Mathew

I can explain what the group that builds the RTC Proof of Technology material does to manage code, docs, powerpoint, etc. There is a single stream to deliver to, and you just deliver to that stream. It helps that almost all of the work is divided up so each person only works on certain files, and there is little or no overlap. Not sure if you can actually do a PowerPoint merge :-)

My RTC is set up so that the checkin is automatic on Save (server is in the US, and people work from all over the world work on the material - I am accessing via home connection in the UK so it is a tortuous connection to the US server inside the IBM firewall). A big doc with lots of screenshots may take a while to move across to the server but this is not an issue for me.

In your case, perhaps go with your idea of one stream per group, or even just have one stream for a release. It depends on how much overlap you have - and how you propose to merge conflicting changes.
