Component and workitem promotion

Vitor Batista (1177) | asked Oct 04 '12, 11:52 a.m.
Hi,

is there any article or guidance on recommended way to work with SCM, automatic build/deploy and work item/component promotion, in a four step deployment scenario (Dev -> Test -> Pre-Prod -> Production) ?

Looking into Library I found these videos, but they are for RTC 3. Is there any new feature or difference in RTC 4?

Also, looking into online help I got this article. This promotion feature works with Linux or just with Mainframe systems? Is this feature I should use to move the deployment toward Dev to Production?

As you can see, I know very little about the subject. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Vitor.

Vitor,

Promotion is used in conjunction with dependency build to flow your source and built programs through your development hierarchy (e.g., Dev->Test->Prod). Dependency build and promotion are currently only supported for z/OS and IBM i. Packaging and deployment are supported on z/OS, IBM i, and Linux/UNIX.
You can see all of these features in action together in Enterprise build, promote, and deploy scenario in the CLM 2012 Money that Matters sample, or in an expanded video zOS Development with Rational Team Concert that also highlights some V4 enhancements and shows the use of the ISPF client for z/OS development.
