This is a good suggestion. We are currently supporting open source development projects by making Rational Team Concert free for qualified open source projects.

Because we are Eclipse 3.3 and 3.4 based, existing open source projects like Junit already integrate with Team Concert. As these projects evolve we expect them to take advantage of the collaboration features in Team Concert as well. For example our own Rational Application Developer (version 7.5) provides the ability for two developers to perform a collaborative debugging session using Rational Team Concert.

For Open Source Projects
Check out Rational Team Concert for Open Source

We also have an academic program for universities that offers similar benefits and accessibility to Rational Team Concert
Check out the Rational Academic initiative
