Permanently Remove a Component from RTC
Background: I have replicated the stream of a source repository to a local repository. A component was created that is owned by a team area in the local repository. The project area I created came with a component that I am not using.
I would like to permanently remove the default component from RTC. How do I remove the component permanently? Thanks, Craig |

This is currently not possible as far as I know. If you type 'delete component from stream' in the advanced search you can find several forum posts around this.
You can remove the component from the stream, you can rename it and use it for something later or you can change the owner to a garbage collector owner, so that it does not show in the UI. |
Ralph, can you say a few more words about how you would "change the owner to a garbage collector owner, so that it does not show in the UI?" What's a "garbage collector owner" and how would that keep something from showing in the UI?

Deleting a component is requested in work item 163568. Please feel free to add a comment to that work item, indicating your interest/support.

Sure,
if you right click on a component in the Eclipse UI you can use the context menu to change the owner. If you make a user the owner, the component will stop showing up in the components list in the Eclipse UI for other users. You can use a technical user or any other user for this. This is the only way to get the component out of the way for the other users I am aware of. |

a part of our system migration, we had a case where components were not visible because they were owned by a specific user.
one user create components he expected to see..
now that I have resolved the component ownership problem, the original components are now visible,
and in the source control tree, they appear twice.
I would like to clean this up.

Well, there IS a way to clean this up..
thanks to a mistake I made this past weekend, I have a way to clean up the components list..
create a new personal workspace (some admin user not in normal projects)
in the workspace editor page, add the specific component names to the new workspace..
Now, click on each component u want to hide, and select
Change Owner, making them owned by the same person as owns the workspace, (instead of the
project being the component owner).. note that you do not get a 'chance' to back out of this change..
even before u save the workspace.. Save the workspace editor window
the components are not deleted but they no longer display for anyone. (other than the owner)
I also made the personal workspace private
