automatic snapshots possible (e.g. weekly)

Unknown User (1655) | asked Mar 05 '12, 1:21 p.m.
Is it possible to create a project snapshot in RRC automatically (e.g. each Friday)?

The reason behind this question is to have some kind of automatic backup, which will help if somebody in the specification team deletes an artifact accidently or if he/she does a wrong change. We have a larger team at the customer with some new users (therefore the change of doing something unwanted is relatively high). If we would have weekly snapshots we would have a chance to retrieve the 'good' artifact contents, before the user did his change.

As a workaround you could run a scheduled public build that succeeds and creates a snapshot against the stream. That would create the baseline/ snapshot if you configure it that way.

Hi Ulrike,

The short answer is no, there is no automatic process for creating snapshots. However...

You can create a snapshot for any arbitrary point in time. That is, on Wednesday, if you wanted to create a snapshot for last Friday, you can do so by specifying that as the date/time for the snapshot. So even if something was deleted on Monday, it will still be available in the snapshot you created for Friday, despite having created it on Wednesday. You can basically go back in time as far as you like.

This works due to two premises:
1) artifacts are only archived, not physically deleted, by a delete action meaning the artifact does still exist in the database, and
2) a snapshot is really just a timestamp used as a basis for calculating the right set of resource revisions for a given point in time

Hope that helps.

What about for PLAN snapshots? Is there a way to create those in the past? Or to automate creation once per week?
