Can Jazz Build Engine replace CruiseControl?

Jirong Hu (1.5k9295258) | asked Feb 09 '12, 11:19 a.m.
Hi

Most of our projects are using CruiseControl now and the management wants to replace them with RTC's build engine. The source code is moving from any other tools into RTC. My questions:

1. Project team once told me that the major issue is RTC's build engine can't handle build dependency very well.

2. If RTC3 can't, will RTC4 be able to do the job? When will RTC4 out?

Thanks
Jirong

Hi,

why not use both? https://jazz.net/projects/rational-team-concert/integrations/build-mgmt#cruise

Currently, yes, we are using CC with RTC (retrieve code using scm command), but management wants to replace open source tools with RTC.

"Build dependency" can mean different things depending on the context.
What did the project team mean by that statement? What specific
behavior does Cruise Control do well that RTC supposedly does not?

JBE does not handle dependencies at all yet, unless you are on a Z System. However there are plans to make dependency build available across all platforms. See work item 170830.

Most of our projects are using CruiseControl now and the management wants to continue to use Cruisecontrol to build EAR pulling the code from RTC SCM. The source code is moving from any other tools into RTC.

Please can someone help me get a sample script to build EAR connecting to RTC SCM.

Kumar,

I would suggest reading in the library https://jazz.net/library/article/620 also you might want to search for SCM CLI or SCM Commandline to get more examples. Basically you could use the jazz scm command line if that is necessary for cruise control. I don't know if it is, since I haven't played with it.
