Rename baselines

Andrea Mantovani (4174) | asked Sep 30 '11, 9:53 a.m.
Hello,
I have a concern on the usage of baselines under RTC: after having created a baseline of a component, it can be renamed without any alert.

This renaming operation can be done on any baseline created on the component (even a past created baseline, on top of which Change Set delivery operations have already been done).

This can be confusing for the developers, since most of the time, when referring to sw releases, they use baseline names within documentation etc.

Furthermore, the fact that the baseline name has been modified is NOT tracked in the history of the component; thus, nobody will know if the baseline name is the original one, when it has been changed, etc.

Is there any feature in RTC that can be enabled in order to avoid this?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Andrea

Go to the project area and remove the permission to modify a baseline name/description. Then nobody can rename a baseline or you can assign a role the power to rename. That person would be the one responsible for updating documentation, etc. when a renaming a baseline.

Thanks a lot, Tim. Your suggestion solves my problem.
