Display an Insight report in the RTC dashboard?
8 answers
Hi James,
Currently I have RTC 3.0 and Cognos 8.
We are planning to migrate to the latest available RTC and Insight versions based on the amount of effort and flexibility we can have on using RTC as the presentation layer for the application.
I am looking for a article, which would help me to create an estimation on the integration effort.
I think there are two parts of this.
First, how do you install and configure Insight such that it can provide reports to an RTC instance. This will involve things like configuring the Jazz namespace, creating an OAuth key that is shared between the JTS and Insight, getting the Cognos archives and Data Manager jobs from CLM to import/use them in Insight, etc. This should be covered in the Insight documentation (with pointers to the CLM/RTC documentation where appropriate).
Second, once this is up and running and the servers are friends, how do you view Insight reports in RTC (e.g. in the dashboard). This should be covered in the RTC doc (you can find preliminary versions of this doc here: https://jazz.net/help-dev/clm/index.jsp), but essentially:
1. In RTC, you can create a "Custom Report Template". When creating this template, you select the Cognos report (definition or view) that it corresponds to. After that, you can create a report from this template, just like you would with the BIRT reports, and view them in the RTC reports web UI.
2. After you create a custom report template, you can create a "Custom Report" widget in the RTC dashboard. Point it to your custom report template and you're all set.
Perhaps someone following this thread on the Insight team can proide some information on where the Insight pieces of this integration are covered in their doc.

Hi Prathin,
See https://jazz.net/help-dev/rational-insight/topic/com.ibm.rational.raer.install.doc/topics/t_config_insight_lic_to_support_clm.html for instructions on how to create and configure the Jazz namespace in Insight and use JTS as the authentication server.
See https://jazz.net/help-dev/clm/topic/com.ibm.rational.rcpr.help.doc/topics/t_configure_custom_reporting_clm_setup.html on how to configure JTS and the CCM and QM applications to enable the integration with the report server (RRDI or Insight).
After you have performed the above steps, you can use the instructions provided by James to import Cognos reports as custom report templates in RTC and add them to your RTC dashboards.

Hi,
Is there any article available in the web , which would provide the steps to perform this integration.
I want to browse and view the Report in the Cognos viewlets within the RTC Dashboard.
Thanks in Advance
Hi,
Can you provide more information about which versions of Insight and RTC you are using? Past versions of RTC (3.0 and before) did not provide viewlets to view Cognos reports in the dashboard (although RQM did). In the upcoming RTC release we have a "Custom Report" viewlet, and the ability to create custom report templates which let you view the Cognos reports in RTC (both in the Reports Web UI and the Dashboard).
Thanks,
james

Using the instructions above, I have managed to link our Insight 1.0.1.1 server to our Jazz RTC server 3.0.1.
I can add reports and views to the dashboard and run them from there to see the latest output as expected.
However, the View reports are generated on a timed schedule, since they take awhile to create. I was hoping that since the Views are coded as 'View most recent report' that they would display their output immediately in the dashboard. Instead they insist on being run from scratch :-(
Any ideas on how I code it so that the Views display the most recent output ?

Hi All,
I am creating a custom report from template in RTC -> Unable to find certain reports that i designed under the "Custom reports" folder for choosing. For e.g. under the same folder, 1 report is visible and the other is not while creating the report template from RTC . Is there any security setting that we need to set from insight side?
