Problem with the story points in a Release plan

User has created a Release plan which comprises of 5 iteration plans. Problem is that the team is not able to see the cumulative story points on the progress bar of the Release plan even though all iteration plans under that release plan are showing accurate Story Points in their respective progress bar.

Note: User has created a custom work item type "Story" in OpenUp Process template and all Stories are tagged with respective iteration plans which we believe is not a good practice. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks !!

Hi,

can you elaborate on hat you did exactly?

If I wanted to do what you describe below I'd create a release plan (or a team release plan) configured for the release iteration (that contains the sub iterations). I believe this plan would show what you want grouped by iterations. It would roll up the story points across parent child relationships.

I'd check if the release plan is configured incorrect (iteration, owner) or if the release plan and the iteration plans point to different time lines. Roll up does not work across time lines.

I am not sure about what is asked here.

A custom work item type is not an issue. For the complexity roll up you have to provide a complexity attribute and the values of that attribute need to be numbers (also the literals in enumerations).
The attribute needs to be set as the complexity attribute in the process configuration. You can only have one per project area.

Another thing to check is: is the story work item type listed as top level work item type in the process configuration. Otherwise the roll up won't work either, I believe.
