Twice in a row in four weeks, our RTC server crushed due to issue with the floating license server which is running on the same box as the RTC server and WAS server.

In the first incident, when connected to https://server.swg.usma.ibm.com/jazz/admin, saw errors that the floating license server http://localhost:9081/jazz/ is not available.

But after clicking the url http://localhost:9081/jazz/ then all seems working again

But the damage has been done as both RTC and WAS went cranky and had to restart them.

Then two weeks later, we had it again and it actually caused java core dump.

And again we saw the message starting with floating license server issue in the log:

2011-02-02 09:43:44,663 WARN com.ibm.team.repository - CRJAZ1297I The list of floating licenses could not be updated. See nested exception for details.
com.ibm.team.repository.common.TeamRepositoryException: CRJAZ1267I The list of floating licenses could not be retrieved from "http://localhost:9081/jazz/service/com.ibm.team.repository.service.internal.license.IFloatingLicenseService/licenses".

Just wondering if anyone else have had issues with the floating license server when it is configured to use locahost name instaead of fully qualified one?

I would consider to open a PMR/Work Item.

Some things come into mind:
  • Why don't you use a fully qualified host name for the license server? I am not sure this would solve the issue however.
  • Is this a token license server? Otherwise, why not serve the licenses on the JTS?

Hi Ralph,

this is our configuration:
Licens Server

So - there is a fully qulaified host name for the license server

I believe, even if the license server goes down or is otherwise unresponsive, it should not affect the stability of your other servers. I would consider to open a PMR or work item.
