RTC 3.x Server comparison
Hello,
We have a remote team of 8 that need an CM solution. Normally we would move them to the local ClearQuest software, however we are looking at using this as an opportunity for RTC. Our dilemma, is that we do not want to migrate them to the few RTC licenses we already have available.
So, that leaves us with 2 choices:
The FREE dev 10 licenses that are available with an RTC download.
The "entitlement" option with RTC and ClearQuest.
My questions are:
-Do either of these allow for export/import into a "authentic" RTC server months from now?
-With the "entitlement", is there a requirement to be attached to a CQ database at all time?
-Do both solutions allow for a modification of process templates?
-With either of these, do you have to worry about Dev/Stak/Contr users? Or should I just make everyone a Dev.
Any thoughts?

First one caveat: the CQ licenses that provide access to RTC-3.0 CM
functionality have not yet been released, but should be very soon.
The good news is that all the server restrictions have been removed for
the 3.0 licenses, so you can use these 3.0 "Advanced Change Management"
licenses on any RTC server (the 2.0 CQ licenses could only be used on an
RTC server that was only being used for the CQ licenses).
But note that you are only entitled to licenses for CQ licenses that
have paid-up maintenance.
There is no requirement that you be attached to a CQ database, but there
is a requirement that:
- your Authorized User entitlement licenses only be used by users that
have CQ Authorized User licenses with paid-up support
- the maximum number of users using either a CQ floating license or the
CQ entitlement licenses is no more than the number of CQ floating
licenses with paid-up support.

No, the requirements are only the ones stated above.
Yes. In 3.0, the CQ Advanced Change Management license gives you pretty
much the same capabilities as an RTC Contributor license.
Not quite sure what you mean by that. RTC Dev, RTC Stakeholder, and
RTC Contributor are three different licenses (with different
capabilities and different costs). You can only assign someone to have
one of the licenses you have paid for (for the RTC licenses) or one of
the licenses you are entitled to (for the CQ licenses, or the RTC
included licenses).

We're currently working through various approval levels, and getting the
license terms translated. I'll post a followup to this thread as soon
as we have a firm date.

Is there a planned date or an ETA when these will be released for RTC

Thanks for the keeping us informed Geoff:
We have a couple of additional questions:
Is this enforced by the tools?
So..., just to be clear. If I have a RTC server, I can add the Advanced CM piece and not effect the capabilities of the RTC server? Also, does this work if I have a Advanced CM server and then want to add more RTC licenses?
Once the CLM solution comes, this should not effect the installation right? I mean if I want to add RRC and RQM on the same mega-server or distributed servers?
thanks...

Correct. To be precise, what you are adding are Advanced CM Licenses to
the RTC server.
There is no such thing as an "Advanced CM server". There is just a Jazz
Team Server (with a registered CCM application). You can use any CCM
licenses against the CCM application (i.e. the RTC licenses and the
ClearQuest Advanced CM licenses). Of course, what operations you are
allowed to perform depends on what license you have been assigned.
Correct. You would just register your RRC and RQM applications with the
existing JTS you were using for your CCM application.
