CQ Import invalid XML characters?

Does anyone know a way to ignore (or translate) invalid XML characters (specifically Unicode 0x1a) from records as they are imported from CQ?

I could do it manually I suppose, but that would be a pain.

A nice enhancement option would be to translate them to ASCII string "0x1a"
