buildsystem component packaging question

Pravesh Patel (37612615) | asked Mar 27 '08, 1:45 p.m.
Is there a reason why the Jazz build system component is only packaged as part of RTC? It seems to me that this should be packaged either as part of the server since it's client agnostic or better yet, stand alone.

In our topology we plan to have a seperate build machine, so currently I need to install the entire RTC just to get access to the buildsystem component. I don't think there is any dependency on the rest of RTC.

Are there any plans to modify how the build system component is shipped in the future?

Yes, the build system will be packaged separately from the client.

There is an IBM installation manager offering which will allow you to
install the buildsystem component by itself. On the downloads page,
look under 'All Team Concert Downloads' and you will see an entry for
'Team Concert Build System'.

It is not intended that you install the entire client on your build
machines. The current best practice is to install the client in one place.
Then zip up the buildsystem tree. Then copy buildsystem.zip to your build
machines.

As others have said, we'll be offering a standalone zip for the build
system, as well as the install manager for it.
