Hi,
I'm newbie here. Just started working with the rational IBM tools. I need to implement (deploy) IBM DOORS. Follow my search on internet, I much more confused. Which are the differences between Requirements Composer and DOORS?!
Could you please explain me.
Thanks in advance.
regards,
Ljupco.

Which are the differences between Requirements Composer and DOORS?!
DOORS is the requirements management tool with the largest market share. It's used around the world to create, organize, share, report on and manage requirements in everything from short-term, agile-oriented IT development projects to decades-long programs to design and deliver commercial and military aircraft. Most customers of DOORS are doing things somewhere between these two ends of the spectrum. DOORS has been especially well embraced by teams developing products or "systems of systems" where there are significant dependencies among software, electrical and mechanical requirements and the need to carefully manage changes to requirements and ensure that regulations, policies and standards are being met.
Requirements Composer (RRC) in version 2.0 is a collaborative requirements definition platform that supports light-weight requirements practices -- good for teams working in a dynamic environment that requires a lot of customers/stakeholder interaction. It includes a number of notations for expressing requirements that fosters better communication between the project team and stakeholders.
It's appropriate in some organizations to have both DOORS and RRC. Many organizations have various teams, some with engineering / compliance cultures and others with more of a market-driven culture. Other organizations see a need for a less structured process for brainstorming and initial project proposals / commissioning followed by a more controlled project-level requirements process.

Firstly IBM Rational DOORS is mainly a Requirements Management product that provides lifecycle traceability, security, process control, requirements creation etc. IBM Rational Requirements Composer is mainly a Requirements Definition product, that allows creation of not only textural requirements but also visual requirements, such as User Interface sketches, Business Process Sketches and Use Case diagrams.
Secondly requirements documents created in IBM Rational Requirements Composer (RRC) can be exported to IBM Rational DOORS (DOORS) to provide a complete Requirements Definition & Management capability. So both products are designed to be used together.
I hope this helps

Thanks guys for the explanations. But what makes me confused is the download link for DOORS and RRC. When I tried to find the link for doors it leads me directly to a composer download page and some iFix release. So, in other hand, the jazz portal also refer doors and composer in a same link with a title doors slash composer.
So please could you tell me where can I find DOORS for trial download.
thanks.

OK now I understand your question.
DOORS 9.2 is generally available today for use in production environments. It's not currently available through Jazz.net. "Rational DOORS" is listed on this trial and demo page, but there is no link to DOORS trial code. I'll need to ask around and get back to you.
DOORS 9.3 announced today: IBM Rational DOORS V9.3 and IBM Rational DOORS Web Access V1.4 -- The first step to integrate DOORS to IBM Rational Jazz-based systems. You can read the US announcement letter there or select another country for that version of the letter.
We have created a temporary semi-separation of RRC and DOORS Requirements Professional to enable us to make progress on delivering and validating specific requirements management capabilities as a distinct domain and and across the project life cycle (RRC today focuses more on requirements definition and collaboration). We intend to recombine RRC and DOORS RP. You will find references to DOORS RP in the Collaborative Lifecycle Management M8 milestone beta that includes Rational Team Concert and Rational Requirements Composer. You can read more here on Jazz.net and find a link to the DOORS RP M8 milestone code (which is the latest available at the time of this post).
Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot. I'll read the articles and send you a feedback. It's very important for my company to get involved into rational tools, so I'm responsible for the first steps, intorducing in front of the managment etc.
Thanks for your valuable help.

Ljupco.

There is an on-line trial for DOORS Web Access which works with DOORS 9.x. To trial the DOORS rich client (the primary DOORS UI) and to do so on your own machines, you will need to involve an IBM or business partner representative. If you don't know how to find your IBM or BP rep, send me a note (dmoul@us.ibm.com) and I'll see if I can help you.
