Whay is the Change Password button grey?

Paul Duedall (11) | asked Sep 03 '10, 1:13 p.m.
We have installed Rational Team Concert 2.0.0.2 iFix 3 (Excpress-C) as a trial for our group. We login to the Jazz web with the default Admin login, go to the User Management page, and when we click on the various users, the
Change Password
button is greyed. We cannot find any place in the RTC eclipse client or Visual Studio client to change password either. What gives? Password resetting is a routine and basic required function ... so why is the Change Password button grey? Is there a super-secret setting to enable this? We repeated the installation and setup several times using both Express and Advanced methods and got the same issue. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi Paul,
I guess the "Oops..." in previous post means you already realized what was going wong :)
When user is created by Admin, user gets created with the same password as userId, by default. Admin won't change password on somebody else's behalf, so Change Password is disabled. User can login through WebUI using the default credentials, go to his/her own profile and change password.

If the user forgot their password ... how do you change it??? Mr Prabodh_m, this cannot be the first time this has come up on the forum ... but thanks anyway for the reply.

The only work-around we found was to archive/disable the user, and create a new user name, with a number appended (e.g. JohnDoe2) ... and tell the user not to forget their password. But, of course, all work and history we were doing is not unavailalbe to the new user account.

Why would there be a Change Password button (which is grey and not accessible) if this was not an intended feature?

Is this a disabled feature in the Express version? Or, does this work the same with all versions? Is there an integration with LDAP/AD that would eliminate this condition? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Paul,
In such cases, you should be able to reset user's password using RTC Eclipse client. An administrator in JazzAdmins group can do this. You can do the following steps to reset password:
1. Login to eclipse client as admin. Make sure admin user belongs to group JazzAdmins.
2. Connect to repository. Right click on repository connection and go to Administer->Open Users. This will open a wizard to search user. Search for the user and click OK.
3. User information opens in editor. On the overview page, there is an option to "reset" password.

Unfortunately, I do not see this option available in Web UI. In RTC for Visual Studio client, we do not have User Administration support yet.

Regarding your second question, you can choose to manage users authentication via LDAP. You can get related help regarding configuring LDAP registry under :
"Help->Installing and upgrading > Installing Rational Workbench for Collaborative Lifecycle Management > Planning the installation > Choosing a user management method" in RTC Eclipse.

Hope this was helpful.

Hi

You need to use https://localhost:9443/jazz - not http.

Hi,
Did you try with username=ADMIN, password=ADMIN. Please note this is case sensitive.

Yes, this works... the case sensitive for the user name was the one I didn't get.
Thanks again.

cheers!
