Traceability for Release Managment

I need to trace a work item to all streams that contain components that have change sets that are linked to that work item.

So i need to follow the link chain from work item to change sets to components in streams that contains these change sets.

Can that be done with a report ? Is there any template already existing for that ? Which data sources and data sets contain the necessary information ?

And here are some more specific question with regard to reporting:

1)
I have created a data set for the table Change Sets in the data source SCM. However, when i preview it is empty (i can see content in the other tables of that data source, i do have change sets created and i did update all snapshots). What can be the cause ?

2)
In which table/data source do i find the link between work item and its associated change sets ? Is it auditable links in COMMON

3)
Where in the reporting table can i find the content of a component in a stream (that is the set of change sets )?

I'll assume we're talking about BIRT reporting in RTC 2.x here. There is an existing template that goes at least part of the way through this chain. See the "Work Item Change Sets" report in the live/ folder in com.ibm.team.examples.reports.common. It shows one or more work items, finds the linked change sets, and shows the number of changed files/folders in each change set. I don't think there's any way today for you to get the content of streams in a report. See below for comments on the data sources/sets.

You need to enable data collection on your streams - we don't do this by default. Go to Reports as an administrative user, and click Administer SCM Snapshot. Select the stream(s) you want to collect data for and save the changes. Then re-run the SCM and Common snapshots (or all of them).

2)
In which table/data source do i find the link between work item and its associated change sets ? Is it auditable links in COMMON

Yes, the auditable links table. See the Work Item Change Sets report for an example of how to do this.

3)

That, I think, is where we can't proceed further. We don't collect this data in the data warehouse, nor is it exposed through the live snapshot (as it's not modeled by regular items).

Hi James,

I'm using a 3.0 M8 server ... but don't see "Administer SCM Snapshot" in
the Reports page when logged in as an administrative user.

Has this been moved in 3.0, or am I just not looking at the right place
on the screen?

Cheers,
Geoff

Geoff,

your user must be in the DW Admin group. Otherwise you won't see it. Then it is on the left underneath the report menu.

In case anyone else is having trouble finding this ... you do not go to
the admin page, i.e. do not select the server administration page. If
you do, you will find a "Report Administration" page, where you can
control when snapshots are taken, but you will not find an "Administer
SCM Snapshot".

Instead, you go to the normal user page (change your URL to end in
"/web" instead of "/admin"). There you will see just a "Project Areas"
tab. Select any of the project areas. Under the "reports" tab for that
project area, select any of the queries views. On the left hand side of
the page, you'll see an "Admin" section of the column. And that's where
you'll find "Administer SCM Snapshot". (This is in a 3.0 M8 repository
.... not sure if the same is true for 2.* repositories).

Cheers,
Geoff
