Requirements definition: example process question

anoop mc (74811200221) | asked Jul 21 '10, 8:43 a.m.
Hi,

I am new to RRC and while going through the RRC getting started guide, reviewing the section Requirements definition: example process.

By looking at the last process Managing requirements section it says business analyst adds the requirements to Rational RequisitePro or Rational DOORS.

Have got few questions in my mind.

To have the requirements manage Does RRC needs to be integrated with either Rational RequisitePro or Rational DOORS ?

If so how to decide upon which one to use ?

Can the tool manage the requirements by itself ?

RRC doesn't provide hierarchical multi-level relationships among requirements, suspect links or the same level of control over users' access to and modification of requirements. If these are important to you, then RRC alone won't meet your needs for requirements management.

For more information see this post (the thought process is relevant to RRC+DOORS as well): What added value does ReqPro have to RRC 2.x? http://jazz.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10234

Can the tool manage the requirements by itself ?

Yes, if your primary needs are for a highly collaborative environment where teams need to spend a lot of effort on requirements definition, or your teams are typically doing much of the "management" in work items (e.g., agile processes).

If so how to decide upon which one to use ?

You need to consider what your teams need now versus in a year or so (when we expect users to see DOORS RP and RRC as a single RD+RM tool (common UI, common server, common repository).
