Stale Data error when reusing work item template

Hi,

I have created a work item template that includes a parent and some
child work items. When I try to use it I have the following error:
"Error while creating work items from a template. Stale Data".

Anyone has also experienced this error?

Thanks,

Ana

Hello Ana,

very interesting, I haven't seen that before. Does this happen already
when you instantiate the template the first time? I'd also like to see the
template specification. Could you export the template to a file and paste
it here?

Thanks,
Jan.

Hi Jan, I have not problem or warning creating de WI template. The error

is when I try to use it (it fails always).
The template has a summary task and some children tasks with some custom
fields.
How can I export the WI template? I have been looking how to do it but I
have not found any instructions in the help to export a WI template..

Many thanks for your help

Hello Ana,

we don't provide a convenient way of exporting templates in RTC2.0.0.2.
Sorry, I forgot about that!
You could, however, save the process attachment that contains the template
as follows:

1. Open the process area in the editor (right click on it and select open)
2. Open the 'Process Configuration Source' tab
3. Search for the term "com.ibm.team.workitem.configuration.templates"
All templates are listed here and reference a process attachement in
their 'content' element, e.g.,
<template
content="processattachment:/workitemtemplates/com.ibm.team.workitem.template1.xml"
....
4. Find the name of the attachment for your template
5. Open the 'Links' tab and select your template's process attachment in
the 'Attachments' section,
e.g. /workitemtemplates/com.ibm.team.workitem.template1.xml
6. Save it into a file.

Thanks very much,
Jan.

Hello Ana,

the work items in your template have links to external items (not included
in the template). This is not supported in RTC2.0.0.2 and an enhancement
request has been filed
(https://jazz.net/jazz/resource/itemName/com.ibm.team.workitem.WorkItem/109095).

If you like to use this template, please make sure that it is
self-contained, i.e., its work items have no links to external resources.

Hope that helps,
Jan.

Hi Jan,

I have been doing some tests with other WI types and Processes and the
problem seems to be related also with the Rational Project Conductor
Integration. Although I have removed all links to external references
the WI template does not work, so I assume that the problem is also due
that the WIs included in the template are part of the RPC default
template (summary task and task) and RPC includes by default some out of
the box post conditions when saving a WI that do not like too much to
the WI template creation process.

I have tried to remove these postconditions but these can not be removed
from the process template, so I cannot be 100% sure this is the problem,
but when working with other WI types with similar custom fields but that
are not based in the RPC process template the WI template works perfectly.

I will create a WI in RPC project because I think the WI template
functionality is also very important when working with both RPC and RTC.

Many thanks for your help,

Ana
