API for a detailed changelog, work items between to snapshot

is there a way to query for the work items between two snapshots using an API?

given are the names of two snapshots, and i want a list of ids or urls of the work items between these snapshots (the ones i get when using the compare snapshot action in eclipse). then i would use the rest api to get the details (description, component, ...) of the work items.
