Project are name change not picked up by RTC client for VS

Walter Mansur (63613017) | asked Feb 04 '10, 6:03 p.m.
Hi,

We changed a Project Area name in RTC Eclipse client. The name change was not picked up by the RTC client for Visual Studio. Has anyone else seen this?

We did this:
1. In the RTC Eclipse client, in the Team Artifacts view, changed a Project Area name and Saved the change.
2. Looked in the Team Artifacts area of the RTC client for Visual Studio and the Project Area name did not change.

RTC Eclipse client is v2.0.0.1
RTC server is v2.0
RTC client for Visual Studio is v2.0

Thanks,

-Walter

That kind of information (that normally doesn't change frequently) is
often cached, and not reread until you restart the client. Have you
tried exiting and then restarting the VS client?

Hi Geoff,

We will try that and see if that helps.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the hint. Closing and reopening the RTC Client for Visual Studio did not pick up the new name of the Project Area, (at least not right away). What does happen is that the list of "Available Project Areas", displayed when you right click on a Repository Connection and select "Connect to Project Areas" picks up the new name for the changed Project Area right away. We were able to Disconnect the existing Project Area (with the "old" name) and then connect to the Project Area with the new name which was in the list of "Available Projects" seen when we selected "Connect to Project Areas. This is sufficient for our needs and we appreciate your help with this.

Thanks,

-Walter

When the VS Client is connected to a project area, it locally caches some project area properties such as the name for example, so that it can display them in the Team Artifacts Navigator even when you'e not connected. When you start the Client, this information is read from the cache. If you'ce changed project area names, you'd need to select the "Refresh" menuoption on that project area and it'll pick up the new name.
