Guidance on Project Archival and Restoration with Consistent Work Item IDs in IBM EWM (DO-178C Compliance)

Dear FORUM,

I am reaching out to inquire about the recommended procedure for archiving and restoring projects within our IBM Engineering Workflow Management (EWM) environment, specifically with the goal of ensuring full compliance with DO-178C requirements for data archival and retrieval.

Our objectives are as follows:

  • To create an archive of a project area such that all work items, IDs, versions, metadata, and relationships are preserved.
  • To be able to fully restore the project from the archive, retaining identical work item IDs, versions, and all relevant project history.
  • To meet the DO-178C archiving and regeneration objectives, allowing for auditability and traceability throughout the lifecycle.

Could you please provide step-by-step guidance or the necessary documentation to achieve this?

In addition, I would like to know if it is possible to configure the application so that work item IDs are dependent on the project area, rather than being generated globally by the server. Our concern is that, when restoring a project, the work item IDs in the restored project may differ from those in the source project if the IDs are managed at the server level. For our certification and traceability requirements (in line with DO-178C objectives), it is crucial that the work item IDs remain consistent between the original and restored projects.

Is there a way to ensure that work item IDs are generated and managed per project area, so they can be preserved during archiving and restoration processes? If so, could you provide guidance or relevant documentation?

Thank you in advance for your support.
