Providing write access to a limited set of attributes of a type

In DOORS NG we what to give a certain role (and it is only one) write access to two attributes of a type used in a particular module. Using the permissions page in Manage this Project area we identify the attributes of the type and grant modify access. However, this setting is not reflected for the user. What are we doing wrong?
