Link to standard project properties rather than import from template or another project?
When we create new projects in DOORS NG we import the properties from previous projects. That's the artifact types, attributes, link types, constraints etc etc.
We would prefer to have a standard set of properties and use them for each project i.e. link to them rather than importing. This would ensure that all project always have the same properties rather than "property drift" over time.
Current DOORS version is 6.0.6.1 but we are in the process of updating to 7.0.3
One answer
Linking types between projects is not possible in ERM Doors Next.
If you need all your type systems (project/component properties) to be the same in all projects, it makes sense to keep one 'type-master project' to maintain your type system. And then in the other projects/components, use 'import project/component properties' to keep the types updated.
For example:
-You could create a project/component template with the standard types + initial data that you want to have in all new projects or components.
-And then you can import the project/component properties from the 'master-type project' to keep the types up to date and alligned. This can be done whenever needed (ie you could create new attributes and assign them to artifact types in your 'type-master project' and then import these updated project/component properties into your other projects/components.)
Note: If you use configuration managed projects, I strongly suggest to follow the recommendations from this article:
