Sprint Burndown Chart Questions

Anna Pajor (161) | asked Oct 06 '09, 5:48 a.m.
Hi Everyone,

Before I begin - I am new to RTC so apologies if my questions are a little noddy. I have looked through the forum to see if there were any posts like mine so I hope I am not repeating things. I am using RTC 1.0.1.

1) My sprint burndown chart doesn't start at zero for some reason? Can anyone answer why this would be the case. I do have a picture if anyone wants to see it.

2) The sprint burndown chart via the web GUI dashboard falls to zero at the end eventhough the project isn't finished. yet if I click on the viewlet the chart look like it should and doesn't fall to zero on the end. Is this a bug in RTC? I do have a picture if anyone wants to see it.

3) All of the users in my project are listed as doing 8hr days. Does this have any bearing on the burndown? Or is it just used for utilisation/task assignment.

4) All my user stories and tasks in my Sprint Backlog are filed against the Sprint Backlog (and not the Product Backlog). Is this correct? My reason for asking is that I have seen other projects where the stories have remained under the Product Backlog - so I just want to chack if I am doing things correctly.

If anyone can answer these questions that would be great.

Many thanks,

Anna

This is expected. The burndown report shows how much work remains in an
iteration. The expectation is that at the beginning of the iteration,
some work is planned, and some estimates provided. So the burndown
starts at whatever that number is, and as you do work it goes down (i.e.
"burns down") to (hopefully) zero at the end of the iteration.

Could you open a bug report, file it against the Reports component, and
attach both screenshots? Thanks.

Burndown does not take into account work schedules, it's simply a
visualization of the remaining work.

I'll let someone else comment on this, but I think it's really up to you.

Hi James,

Thanks for the replies :-) I know have an explanation for my burndown not starting at zero.

How/where do I create a bug report for the GUI issues?

Thanks,

Anna

Anna, 2) has been fixed in RTC 2.0. Do you have any plans to upgrade to RTC 2.0?

Thanks Rafik. Yes we are hoping to go to RTC 2.0 in the near term - it is part of a scheduled server upgrade. In the meantime I am happy that it was a bug and fixed in s future release - as it allows me to give an explantion to people.
