How to show work item attribute on dashboard widgets?

Hi Team,

I am planning to customize WI, that will hold some calculated value.

I want to represent that calculated value (dynamic in nature) into dashboard in the form of Widgets.

Has anyone done this before?

Is the calculation done just before the WI is saved (which in effect becomes static), or when the widget is loaded? The two use cases are completely different.
