open modal floating popup froma DNG widget

We have developed a DNG widget which sits in the mini dashboard and want to open a modal floating popup.

In general this is no problem. But our popup is so far limited to the extension of the mini dashboard.

Is ther a way to open a floating popup or window from a DNG widget that stretches across the complete browser?
