RQM Screen capture tool on Chrome downloads rqm_screencapture.jnlp every time it used

Hi,

On Chrome there appears to be no way to prevent downloading the rqm_screencapture.jnlp

You see the following:

And when you click "Keep" you end up with a new download every time:

I cannot find a setting in Chrome advanced settings to prevent the "rqm_screencapture.jnlp" from downloading each time it is used.

Thanks,
Brett

Hi Brett,

I think, this is the limitation of JNLP functionality. As browser cannot talk to the local system, it always downloads the JNLP file for every screen capture request. The JNLP file run using Java WebStart which downloads the required screen capture JAR from the RQM server and starts the screen capture application. Please note that, if the screen capture JAR is available in the local system cache, then JAR file is not downloaded from the RQM server, unless server has the modified JAR files. This way RQM JNLP file saves the network bandwidth.
Also FireFox and IE also downloads the JNLP file for every screen capture request. But it gets handled separately for those browsers.

There are some options available on web to set default program to open jnlp file in chome - https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-configure-chrome-to-open-jnlp-files
But for me, "Always open files of this type" option is greyed out.

Please let me know, if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Vijay
