Creating a custom viewlets for dashboards in RTC

Hi All,

I have a requirement to create a personal dashboardin RTC. As part of this i wanted to create custom viewlets which will call a web service to get the the content for that viewlet. I was referring to this wiki https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/ViewletServices for the same. But it says that "this is not a recommended way to contribute services.This is how things were done previously and while it is still functional, new components should strongly consider using a more current approach"

So my question is -What are the current ways to create custom viewlets ,viewlet services ?
