RTC 1.0.1.1 - cannot create new work item categories

Narayanan Potti (27037379) | asked Aug 06 '09, 6:18 p.m.
Hi

I am using RTC 1.0.1.1. I am logged in to RTC Eclipse client using the Jazz admin id. In the Team Organization view of a project I created a new work item category. When hitting save button I get error:

Permission denied.

Problem
You don't have permission to Save Category .

Why does Administrator not have permission to modify a work item category ? I am sorry if this is a silly question ! Can someone please help me with this ?

Thanks
NP

FORUM ADMINISTRATOR / FORUM MODERATOR / JAZZ DEVELOPER
Note that there are two kinds of admins in RTC ... a "repository admin"
(indicated by the user being a member of the JazzAdmins repository
group, and a "process area admin" indicated by the user appearing in the
Administrators list of the process area (or of a parent of that process
area, since process area administrator is an inherited role).

I believe the primary difference is that a repository admin has admin
privileges to configure the repository itself and has admin privileges
for all process areas, while a process area admin only has admin
privileges for that process area (and its child process areas).
If that is not right, hopefully someone who actually knows the answer to
this will post a correction (:-).

The capabilities of an admin was significantly extended in RTC-1.0.1.
In particular (from the RTC-1.0.1 New+Noteworthy):

"All users in the JazzAdmins group, and all project and team
administrators, will now have the power to change a project or team
area. This now includes changing the area's name and summary, iteration
structure, and administrator assignments, as well as archiving."

Note that creating a new work item category is not one of those powers,
which is why as admin you cannot perform this operation.

What you *can* do as an admin, is give yourself the appropriate role in
that project area, and you will then be able to save the new work item
category.

Cheers,
Geoff

In the Team Artifacts view I opened the project. In the Project area, Process Configuration tab, Roles I created a new role called Team-lead. Under Project Configuration, Permissions for Work Items I gave permissions for Save Category (server) and modify a work item category. In Team area, Members I added my user id to Team-lead role.

In the Project area, Work Item Categories tab I am still get the Permissions Denied error when trying to save the project area after adding a new work item category.

I edited the XML file in Process Configuration Source tab and added these lines under <role>

<operation>
<action>
</operation>

Please let me know if there are anything else I should do to create a new work item category.

Thanks

As I understand it, the permissions you set are for setting or changing on particular workitem.
Set yourself as scrum master or administrator at the project level and you will be ok
