BIRT allows a "connection profile" to be held in a "connection profile store" - does RTC support this for installed reports?. The Actuate article is at http://developer.actuate.com/be/documentation/ihub2-web/birtos/ab/index.html#page/actuateBirt/conn-profile-ABIRT-ro-iServer.25.04.html.

I'm trying to remove repository information from my rptdesign files so it's easy to switch  repositories during development. But I can't see how to deploy the report file in RTC
