RTC 2.0, Sametime & Notes 8.5

Has anyone successfully gotten the RTC Sametime plugin to work with 2.0 and Notes 8.5. I had it working with RTC 1.0, my team recently upgraded to 2.0.

I've updated my rational install with 2.0 and even attempted to install the Sametime plugin that comes with 2.0, most of which appear not to be compatible with Notes 8.5

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I tried with standalone sametime 8.0.2 and couldn't get it easily to work. I gave up futzing as it wasn't that important to me.

I have RTC seeing who's logged on with Lotus Notes 8.0.2, but the SAMETIME directory in my RSA installation is blank so I can't reverse connect it anymore. Was this left intentionally out?

Aahh well...I just manually copied sametime folder from 7.5.1 and moved it under "Sametime Connect 802" folder. Then I installed just the Jazz plugin and configured jazz repositories. From RTC client under preferences, I had to change the user properties to indicate that user is on Sametime 8 client.

Once I did that the RTC/Sametime plugin is working between RTC 2.0.1 and Sametime 8.0.2.

I was able to get it working with both
- integrated ST 8.0.2 under Notes 8.5 (IBM Lotus Notes Release 8.5.1 / Revision 20090929.1223 (Release 8.5.1)
- standard configuration using ST 8.0.2 Build 20081208

I recall seeing in the forum that the RTC Information Center was updated - in any case, I was able to follow the instructions under this topic... Collaborating > Collaborating using Rational Team Concert > Instant messaging > Connecting to a local Sametime application, at
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/rtc/v2r0m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.team.collaboration.doc/topics/t_connect_st.html

There were some exceptions and gotchas...

Step 1 a) plugin_customization.ini

With multiple copies of ST installed, you have to update both instances of the ini file, or at least pick the instance for the ST app that you want to work with - in my case:
- standalone ST - the plugin_customization.ini file was here:
C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Sametime Connect 802\rcp
- integrated ST in Notes 8.5 - plugin_customization.ini was here:
C:\notes\framework\rcp

I skipped Steps 1 c) - k) Turns out I didn't have to install/update any plug-ins or update them...

Initially, I ran into an error "Invalid combination - Requested operation cannot be performed because it would invalidate the current configuration. See details for more information." when I tried to update the plug-ins

I think this comes up because all my plug-ins are up to date with the levels of Notes and ST and selecting plug-ins to install at this point was failing since the available code to install is down-level!

I Skipped Step 2 - Configure Sametime with your Jazz repository connection

The UI for Preferences Notes 8.5 has changed from earlier levels - in any case, I didn't find "Jazz" and "Connections" only allows one connection for Activities...
I think the instructions for Step 2) with Notes 8.5 should be updated to say create a new entry under "Accounts" to have the information about the Jazz / RTC URI - but so far it's working without having done that update, and I'm not sure if this an Account is needed.

Step 3) worked like a charm.

Thanks for the post ... I had given up trying to get my standalone ST
8.0.2 to work with RTC 2.0. After reading your post, I took another
look at it.

I'm using the same ST 8.0.2 as you are (i.e. Build 20081208)

Once again, Installation step 1.i is where things go wrong .
When installing the RTC 2.0 plugins into ST 8.0.2 :

1) there's no 8.0.2 plugin offered (8.0 and 8.0.1 are offered)
2) when I select (say) 8.0.1, I get a dependency complaint shown in the
attachment.

I'm using the GA RTC 2.0 product. Are you perhaps using 2.0.0.1 ?

I followed the instructions btu could not get it working. Within RTC, did you select Sametime 8.0/Noets 8.0.1 as the provider? I am not getting any error messages, when trying to connect it does not return any errors and the discopnnect button activates thinking it is connected. But within my RTC client I do not see online or green icon.

Were you able to do step 2? I am unable to do step 2 in sametime or integrated sametime/notes?
