How can I copy link information when duplicating work items ?

Is there a way to control the options available when a user selects work item copy ? one think that doesnt seem exposed is the link information.

For example I have a workitem type of defect, and it has many child links to various tasks to complete that defects work. I would like the ability to duplicate that defect and preserve the children linked...  links or parentl/child do not appear as a selection criteria for "Duplicate work item" even if link is added directly as a non attribute presentation.
