Using a VMware image of RTC to install it

We have installed RTC on a VM Linux SLED 10 SP2; could we take a VM image of it and use it as quick set-up on other VMs?

Is this technically do-able ?

I assume some re-config will be needed to connect to another db server (we use Oracle), but this is normally one via the oracle client, any "trace" in RTC?

If do-able, is it supported?

Hi

You should be able to do this. I assume you are creating a new RTC Jazz Team Server instance in your VM.

The variables will be the machine name/ip address and the database connection (assuming your db connection is to another machine and not the same vm). RTC does hold info on the Oracle connection. Take a look at the installation instructions, this will give you the info RTC needs to connect to the database.

You could use the "setup" web pages to do the initial configuration (including the database connection) once you have started your new vm instance (https://<jazz>:9443/jazz/setup)

re: supported - I have not noticed any statements about a VM-installed system being supported, but this is a common configuration and should be no different to a native installation.

It would be really helpful if you posted back your experiences on this. I am sure many other people would be interested (and I am sure people who have already done this will add to this thread)

regards
