How to validate reports chart data

Mark Ingebretson (58515236) | asked May 29 '09, 3:01 p.m.
We are running a Defect discovery rate chart from a 1.0.1 RTC server.
We don't think the numbers in the chart match the actual defects data.
Running a query for the same set of File Against values that map to the
report's teams shows more defects than the chart.

A few questions:

1. All the documentation I've seen says the data is aggregated weekly.
Starting on what day of the week?

2. Is there any way to determine what defect work items make up each of
the report data points?

3. I've seen other posts that indicate there will be more capability for
#2 above in V2.0. Could you describe what we'll be able to do in V2 for
drilling down and viewing chart data?

4. Are there any known defects with the defect discovery report in 1.0.1?

Thanks,

Mark Ingebretson

Hi Mark,

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Weeks start Sunday.
2. It is possible, I believe we store enough data in the data warehouse to determine the exact Work Items that were created during a particular week. Please raise a feature request and we will consider doing this for Post 2.0.
3. In 2.0, our historical trend data can be linked to individual states of work items. We don't have yet a report that can demo this.
4. I am not aware of any defects in the Defect Discovery rate report. I would suggest try comparing the data of the Defect Discovery rate report and that of the New Work Items by Severity report. Plot both charts over a similar interval of time and compare the sum of the counts. They should be close. Let us know if there is a missmatch.
