Project Timeline

Hi, I have seen I can define multiple Timelines into the same Project
Area. But just one of them can be set as the Project Timeline. I have
been searching the docs looking for this concept with no success.

What is the difference between the Project Timeline and other Timelines
also defined in the same Project Area? Reading the docs and samples, it
seems it is reasonable to define more than one Timeline (Development and
Maintenance for example).

Thanks in advance,

Chemi.

The "project timeline" is the timeline used to help determine the
process when you do work directly in that project, as opposed to working
in a team area in that project. It is also the default timeline used in
a team area, unless that team area explicitly selects a timeline.

Cheers,
Geoff

We have a team with its timeline, and the subteams have inherited that timeline ... and as the subteam page says, the timeline has been inherited by default. How do we override that default for the various subteams?

Alternatively, I see that I can move a subteam out from under its parent so it becomes its own top-level team. It would expect to be able to change the timeline once that happens, but somehow still can't make that happen. Suggestions?

Thanks --Paul

Yes, you currently can only change the timeline of a "top level" team
area (work item 90830 asks for this restriction to be removed ... please
feel free to add comments to that work item).

Once you have made a team a top level team, you can change it's timeline
(if you have permissions to do so). In particular, open the Team Area
in the team area editor, and select "Browse ..." in the Timeline section
of the team area editor.
