Field still showing in Custom Tab after deletion

Maria Rita Villari (662) | asked May 04 '09, 1:26 p.m.
We were trying to add a new Tab to a Story with two fields, Design Description and Design Discussion, just like the Description and Discussion fields on the Overview Tab.
We could not quite get the Discussion field to work properly so we decided to remove it. Then we noticed that the Custom Tab has a Miscellaneous section with a field named "Design Discussion" which is the one field we had added and then removed. Somehow we managed to add that field to the Custom section ... how do we remove it from there ?

Hi
The custom tab is configured to show all attributes on a work item that are not explicitly configured on another tab. If you see your field on the customs tab this means that this attribute exists on the work item (for existing work items) or that the Types & Attributes configuration still includes that attribute (for new work items).
You can either remove the 'autocollect' property from the sections on the custom tab (or the custom tab at all) if you do not like that feature, or you can configure the Design Discussion attribute on any tab (including the custom tab) with Kind 'Hidden'. Then it will not show up in the Miscellaneous section.

We have the need to add a couple of workitems to Stories and Defects. I made all changes in the process configuration but the new fields only show up in new workitems.
Is there a way to have them show up in existing workitems ?

You have to 'synchronize' them.. Do a query that brings up the items you want to synchronize, select them, then rt click and 'synch attributes' .

To clarify, you must right-click on the Type column to get the synchronize context menu option. The type column is typically the first one and does not have a column header, just icons in the cells.
