Does CLM 5.0 support online backup of index?

Does CLM 5.0 allow online Fulltext index backup?

--> Based on the CLM 4.0.5 infocenter, it specifically points that backing up the workitemindices (Full text index), the server needs to be shut down as given here:

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0m5/index.jsp?re=1&topic=/com.ibm.jazz.repository.web.admin.doc/topics/t_jfs_backup.html&scope=null

--> However, for CLM 5.0.1 infocenter, it doesn't specifically point that the server needs to be shutdown for backing up work item index (Full text index):

http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0m5/index.jsp?re=1&topic=/com.ibm.jazz.repository.web.admin.doc/topics/t_jfs_backup.html&scope=null

--> Looking into this jazz.net article, it tells because of a defect there is a need to backup the Full text index files while the server is shutdown atleast in CLM 4.0.x:

https://jazz.net/library/article/795

--> This defect is resolved and Fixed in 4.0.3:

https://jazz.net/jazz/web/projects/Jazz%20Foundation#action=com.ibm.team.workitem.viewWorkItem&id=245648

Do we go by the CLM 5.0.1 infocenter? Is online backup of full text index supported in CLM 5.0 yet?

Thank you

This jazz.net article, which is valid for CLM 5.0 version as well clearly tells online backup is not possible today:

https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Deployment/BackupCLM#Backup_the_Fulltext_Index_Files

"Online backup

A continuous online backup is not possible today, due to the inability to back up the Fulltext index online. It is necessary to take the server offline at least to back up the Fulltext index. If you need to restore from an online backup without a consistent backup of the Fulltext index, you must re-create the Fulltext index files from the restored databases."

So the answer is CLM 5.0 does not support online backup of index and is not possible.

Sumant, that is my current knowledge. I will try to dig a little deeper, however that will cost some time. Keep in mind, the deployment Wiki is not product documentation. It is information that a team of users collects to the best of their abilities. My latest information was, that you could stop indexing and restart later which would theoretically allow to backup the index, but there was a catch (the data changed while indexing be stopped would not get indexed). So therefore I did not consider this a good option.

Thanks Ralph. Yes, I understand about the deployment wiki. I will keep a track on this myself and with any change in the information that we have here, I will update as well.

Very interesting comments!!!

Do you get more information about how does work the suspend indexer functionality?

Please could you confirm that the repotools command "suspendIndexer" allow the on-line backup of full text indexes?
