Required properties not working?

Claudia Callegari (44449871) | asked Apr 09 '09, 2:52 p.m.
I'm trying to define a required (mandatory) attribute. What I have done was to use the "Required Properties" precondition for Everyone on "Save Work Item"; and I have associated the appropriate category/attribute I wanted to be required.
When I open the WI that attribute has a red asterisk (which I assume means required) but although I save the WI keeping that attribute in blank, no error or advisory message appears.
What am I doing wrong or missing?

Additionally, it seems the requiredness of an attribute can be defined per roles... but can that be defined per state? I mean I want an attribute to be required under certain states and not on others, regarless the role.

Thanks

I've found the reason of this behavior: if you are logged into RTC as an administrator, then the required field validation is not done and you can save the record without problems.
Can someone explain the reason for this? Asking myself that if I'm the project admin and also a team member, then it will be risky to not have validations working because I'm a super user....
Thanks for clarifications,
Claudia

Hi, Claudia.

The behavior you describe here would be a bug. Administrative users are
subject to the same processes as everyone else except for the case of
certain "administrative" actions, like modifying the project area or team
area setup.

If you can reproduce this problem, can you please file a workitem with
your steps?

This is done for example the Project's Process configuration in Team Configuration>Operational Behavior. Pick Work Items(Server) Save Work Items select a role and add a required properties precondition.
Required properties can be selected down to the state when they are required.

Thank you very much again!

I have followed your instructions. I can see and select the attributes but not the state.

What am I doing wrong?

We are using RTC 1.0.1. Is that available in this version?

I think it's not available in 1.0.x... it's a new feature for 2.0, but let the jazz team to confirm.

Sorry, I did not realize you run 1.x.
This is indeed a 2.0 feature. Then you can unfold the work item type and select the states.
