Migrating from Scrum to Formal Project Management template and vice versa with RTC4

We have some development team would like to try agile development and Scrum template may help.  Yet, after the trial, if they want to switch back to follow typical formal project management, can the switchng be done in the same project area?

Another scenario in reverse direction is that, some development team would like to keep the formal project management process at the moment but potentially, they will adopt agile development in e.g. some time next year.

The similar question has been posted in https://jazz.net/forum/questions/54494/migrating-from-scrum-to-formal-project-management-template but it seems no definite conclusion about the feasibilty there and not sure if there will be any breakthru in RTC4.

Dirk Baeumer's answer on this question is really the correct one: https://jazz.net/forum/questions/54494/migrating-from-scrum-to-formal-project-management-template/54507.

Moving between process templates as you're imagining really isn't possible in RTC. Dirk explains why - in a nutshell, the process defines the data model of the project, so changing between processes would mean changing the model on top of your existing data.

Hi Jared, It looks like we support this in 4.0.3.  See my previous update for the link to the infoCenter which provides detailed steps on how to switch between templates.

As a general rule of thumb, anything Jared says about RTC process supersedes any other information you might find about RTC process (:-).  (Jared is the technical lead for RTC process).  I've submitted work item The documentation on migrating to a new process template needs to have the appropriate warnings about difficulty (276774) to get that section of the documentation updated.  There are cases where you can do such a migration, but if the new process template differs radically from the current one, such an upgrade is often impractical.

We'll update the docs based on this discussion and the work item that Geoffrey submitted.
