Is there a way to make the section show up side by side? This is custom configuration setting.

unfortunately no. the layouts are fixed format.

Hi Sean, as Sam mentioned there is no good way but to make the attributes show side by side you can choose a built-in layout (like Links layout) for your custom tab and add the attributes in the upper two layout slots(attachments and subscribers) to appear side by side.
Hope this helps a bit
