Swicthing processes mid stream

One of our projects wants to startup using using scrum and later adopt formal dev practices. If the project is first setup for scrum, how easy is it to switch to formal later on?
Is it simply importing a formal template on top of the applied scrum or do we need to modify/create additional processes on the scrum process?

Hello Norman,
I would say that changing process from one template to another is not supported,
and could lead to error / data loss, especially if switching to FPM.
However - the Infocenter describes how to add formal project management features to a process template
