Questions and observations after initial look at RTC Visual

James D'Anjou (20111511) | asked Nov 17 '08, 6:38 p.m.
I did my first walk through of the new RTC client and I have a few
questions after my initial examination.

1. When I attempted to associate a work item, the dialog did not show
work items assigned to me. There should have been two as seen in the
Eclipse client. Note that in the Eclipse client I only saw 1 of the 2
assigned to me until I ran a the query: Open assigned to me (Current
milestone) so there might be a general issue. However, the VS client I
never see work items in the associate dialog unless I enter a text
string or WI id.

2. When I shared my VS project I was offered the opportunity to identify
ignore file types but I could not do it later. I noticed after sharing
the project that derived files and folders (executables and related
files in the project bin, obj folders) were detected as outgoing changes
and candidates for check-in, or delivery if auto resolve was on). What
is the advice here? To manage this I moved the files that were supposed
to be checked in to another change set and performed an undo of the all
the derived content.

3. Setting auto resolve on did not always perform an implicit check in.

Thank you.

Hi Jim:

1. I see the same problem as well. I've opened https://jazz.net/jazz/resource/itemName/com.ibm.team.workitem.WorkItem/64568
2. Have you tried 'Add to Ignore List' from the solution explorer?
3. Auto resolve is broken in the beta, as indicated here https://jazz.net/downloads/rational-team-concert/betas/VisualStudioClientBeta1?p=support .
Instead, I use the conflict compare editor, copy all non conflicting changes, manually merge the changes and 'resolve as merged'.

Hope this helps,
Chrix

I checked my project in and then disconnected from Jazz. After I reconnected the icons that normally indicate whether the resource has been modified or 'is in sync' do not appear again :(

In what way will functionality evolve? Everything that can be done through the web, through the web? Plans for integrating a build engine? Process templates?

This is beta for version 1.0. This release will cover in general cases such that Visual Studio developers don't have to leave their IDE for daily or hourly activities :D . It provides a strong SCM and Work Item integration along with parallel development capabilities. ( I hope you have seen the video ). More and more functionality including build support, feeds support etc will be added post 1.0. You should look for a roadmap soon. For version 1.0 you are right, some functionality like creating a new project and selecting process template and adding team members has to be done through the web client. The thought was that this is a one off activity so one can wait a bit for future versions and currently can be done though web ui.

Could be https://jazz.net/jazz/resource/itemName/com.ibm.team.workitem.WorkItem/64609
You can try to restart Visual Studio. A few pbs in that area were already fixed post beta. If restarting doesn't help, please open a work item. A screenshot of your solution explorer and its setup on disk will help. Thank you.

The work item describes the problem I was facing. Thanks!

Looking forward to see how this evolves even further...
