DM 4: Difference between "local installer" and "server" package

Frank Ning (50025119133) | asked Jan 01 '13, 10:57 a.m.

Hello,

I see the following two download options. What is the "Local Installer"? It is much smaller. Does it use IM to download packages from jazz.net? Or is it a really local installer without the need to download packages from jazz.net during installation? If so, wondering why it is much smaller than the regular server package (2GB)?

 Frank,

There are two options to install DM
The first option is the web installer. It connects to the internet to download the different packages (so an internet connection to jazz.net is required).

The second option is the local installer, which is useful if you don't have an internet connection during the installation, or when a firewall setting prevents you from accessing jazz.net
For the second option (local installer), you need to download all the different packages before you start the install.

So, the two packages that you are mentioning in your post are actually both needed for a local install of the DM server. The local installer will use IM but will let you specify a local path (where you downloaded the 2GB server package). No internet connection is needed during the install.

If you have access to jazz.net during the install and you want to minimize the dowloads, then use the web installer option.
