RUP and Agile development
2 answers
Hi,
Doesn't RUP implement Agile methodology? Why don't RUP appear in the list of predifned Jazz processes (the ones that appear are: Agile, Eclipse Way, Scrum, Openup and Simple)? What is the difference between RUP and Agile development then?
Thanks!
This could be a really long answer, but I will try and keep this short :-)
You actually do get a RUP-like template as part of RTC - the OpenUP template.
OpenUP has the same basic core as RUP - with changes. IBM donated ideas/material from RUP to OpenUP, and now in turn bases RUP on the OpenUP core. So if you would like a process based around iterations, phases (Inception/Elaboration/Construction/Transition) - use the OpenUP template.
RUP as a knowledgebase has a lot of material (templates/guidelines/checklists/etc) than could comfortably or meaningfully fit into RTC - RUP covers aspects of the software delivery lifecycle that are not touched by RTC. RUP remains part of the Rational Method Composer product for people who require that level of detail.

The way IBM sells this has changed - RUP is now a process delivered as part of Rational Method Composer - it's a packaging change.
