Custom work item field does not populate in VS 2008

I am using RTC 3.0.1.3, and I created a custom attribute with a default value set to a certain string.
This works fine in Eclipse and Web UI.
However, upon creating a new work item in Visual Studio, the attribute doesn't have the field populated.

This issue has been identified as defect # 209162
https://jazz.net/jazz/resource/itemName/com.ibm.team.workitem.WorkItem/209162
which will be fixed in RTC 3.0.1.4
